Did you know the foods you eat can either worsen back pain or actually help alleviate it? As Ive mentioned before, Ive had pretty severe back pain myself and I know firsthand how debilitating / frustrating it can be. One thing I know for sure, nothing can derail an otherwise healthy person faster than a bad back!
There are numerous natural remedies for alleviating back pain (such as exercise therapy, chiropractic care, massage, acupuncture, etc) but nutritional therapy is also surprisingly very effective for reducing inflammation and therefore reducing pain. This is because certain foods are pro-inflammatory, meaning they can exacerbate your back pain and make you feel worse while other foods are anti-inflammatory and they can actually help reduce inflammation and make you feel better. By avoiding the pro-inflammatory foods and adding more of the anti-inflammatory foods you can, in many instances, reduce pain without taking medications.
You Have Nothing to Lose By Giving Nutritional Therapy a Shot!
Interestingly, the same foods that reduce inflammation are also brimming with nutrients and happen to be among the healthiest and most healing foods in the world. The healthiest foods in the world help prevent disease and can help keep you trim (by the way, shedding excess body weight can also help alleviate back pain.) In comparison, the foods that increase inflammation are nutrient-poor, fattening, artery-clogging and disease-promoting.
Advice From a Back Care Expert
Instead of hearing it from me, I thought Id interview my good friend (someone Ive known for over 20 years), Dr. Jonn McClellan (www.DOCTORJONN.COM) who also happens to be my chiropractor. In the video clip below Dr. McClellan talks about the three stresses that contribute to back pain; 1) physical stress (this is the kind of stress a chiropractor helps alleviate), 2) emotional stress (personally, Ive always found exercise to be a great stress buster but I know some people prefer meditation, calming activities, talk therapy, massage, etc) and 3) chemical stress (environmental toxins such as molds, pesticides, etc. contribute to chemical stress but so can your diet! A toxic diet can create a tremendous amount of chemical stress in your body, which in turn can increase pain).
